History Of Chapter 213

In January / February of 2000 not long after the Second Annual Newton County Sheriff's Office Toy Run, Brent Langley, Kyle Hodges and Jim Keely started the Central Georgia Chapter of Southern Cruisers Riding Club. Brent would become the chapter's First Officer and Kyle the Second Officer. By March of 2001 the chapter would grow to 27 members with bi-weekly meetings at Little Philles in Covington. The chapter's public forum opened in July 2001, and the first chapter website was created soon there after.

In April of 2002, Brent and Kyle stepped down and the State Officer, Reb Boggs appointed Rick "Kahuna" Whedbee and Jud "Iceman" Kidney as the First and Second Officers respectively. At that time there where approximately 35 members.

In May 2002, Kahuna organized what would become the First Annual Memorial Day Ride to Andersonville, GA for the Georgia SCRC. The first year, SCRC would meet up with a much larger group of about 1000 bikes from Stone Mountain Harley Davidson. In 2003 the group from Stone Mountain HD did not organize a ride to Andersonville, so by popular demand, the Central Georgia Chapter has continued the ride for the benefit of SCRC.

During Kahuna and Iceman's tenure as chapter officers, the chapter started a weekly Bike Nite, organized the 2003 SCRC State Rally, designed and adopted the chapter's patch, and started the annual Veteran's Day Ride to Andersonville, GA. The chapter also grew like gang busters and by the time Kahuna and Iceman stepped down in August 2003, there where approximately 85 members with George "Sleepy" Yaughn responsible for bringing in at least half of the new members.

With Sleepy being such a diplomat for SCRC and the Senior Road Captain, he was a natural pick to be the next First Officer of CGA. After careful consideration, Sleepy appointed Randy "Beemer" Calhoun as Second Officer in September 2003. Randy retired from his duties in March 2004, when he moved to the north side of Atlanta, where he is now the Second Officer for the North Atlanta Chapter of SCRC. James "Skid" Skidmore was then appointed to replace Randy in the position of Second Officer. Sleepy retired from the First Officer's position in January 2005. During his tenure, a chapter treasury was created, a motorcycle raffle to benefit St. Jude Children's Research Hospital was carried out, the chapter's first ever Christmas party was held, he also organized our chapter's first run to Savannah for shrimp which is now an annual tradition, and member participation grew tremendously.

James "Skid" Skidmore stepped up as First Officer in January 2005. Skid had become somewhat famous for his outings to north Georgia and truly loves to ride. Soon after taking over the duties of First Officer, Skid appointed Mike "Yoda" Griffey to be the chapter's Second Officer. During his tenure, Yoda blessed us with a website that was truly second to none. Unfortunately when Yoda stepped down as Second Officer in August 2005, the chapter's website was retired also. Just before taking an early retirement in October 2005, Skid appointed John "Quester" Phillips to the vacant Second Officer's position. Skid has done an outstanding job as First Officer, and while he will stay in SCRC as a member, his leadership will be missed.

After recently stepping down as Georgia's Assistant State Officer, Rick "Kahuna" Whedbee became the chapter's First Officer once again. Kahuna is a very proud SCRC member and has served the SCRC in many ways and is very well respected by SCRC members and officers throughout the Southeast. With Kahuna and Quester at the chapter's helm, there is little doubt that the chapter will flourish.

The members of SCRC Central Georgia are like family. And just like any family, there've been some trying times; but the good times far out weigh them, and we expect to have many many more good times ahead.

Along the way there have been various members step up to lead rides, create / manage websites, track treasury funds, track membership and chapter business. These members along with the Chapter's First and Second Officers are all in what is often a thankless job. To all of these members and officers, their participation and involvement is greatly appreciated.
